MY PLATFORM

Learn more about my vision for the Southeast region of JSA. Here you will find all the information you need surrounding the political concerns I address, as well as key policies that I will fight to uphold if elected. The main pillars of my platform are below. Stay tuned here for updates.

CONNECT

JSA is a political and debate organization, but as of right now, it lacks the transparency and accessibility of a government. As governor, I want to change that. As a JSA member, you should know what is going on at all times, even if you are not a chapter president or cabinet member. This means revamping our website and social media presence as a state. Accessibility also means that you have the resources you need to be successful, such as debate resources and fundraising resources. If you go on our current website, some of the links do not work and the ones that do link to other states' pages. The website is in desperate need of revamping and must include resources that are applicable to the Southeast. Cabinet should work for you to ensure you have a fruitful JSA experience. This also means publicizing the cabinet email addresses already on our website so you have access to cabinet at all times. We work for you, you should not have to work to contact us.

EXPAND

Currently, the main hub of the Southeast is Florida, but we lack chapters in our sister states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississipi, and South Carolina. We need to change this as a state. There is no silver bullet for expansion, but by increasing chapter conventions and having large chapters support smaller ones, we can begin to grow the state. As governor, I would create a new position on cabinet called the New Chapter Director, who would work solely with the new chapters that the expansion department finds. In this way, they would be able to give individual attention to new chapters, so the Chapter Internal Affairs department could focus on strengthening our existing chapters. The bottom line is that we need to strengthen our new chapters and give them the resources they need to flourish. This is something I hope to focus on as governor.

ENGAGE

Engagement is the key to any government, and democracy is a core part of our country's founding. However, the Southeast currently doesn't get a lot of direct input from you. As governor, I would help to change this by allowing you to interact with the debate and convention departments. You would decide what the debates focus on, what night activities we have, and what workshop blocks to implement at conventions. Another way to increase engagement is through creating a state publication, much in the same way that the Northeast state has the Patriot or the North California state has the North Star. This publication would act as a platform for pieces by JSA students and would help them to raise their voice on the issues impacting the nation and the world. Increasing our activism resources within our state will also help to increase engagement within chapters. As 2020 is an election year, it is crucial that we start activism initiatives beginning in early 2020 and continue them throughout the spring state season.
